Korea Claims to have developed a Drug that can
Cure MERS, Ebola, SARS and AIDS

Well, well, well…the North Korean leadership seems
to be trying a different kind of tactic in a bid for international attention. Though
reasonably skeptical, I have to admit that I find this strategy rather intriguing—and
I dare say even appealing.
As if realizing that they may have worn out their
usual ploy of military provocations whenever they feel ignored by the international
community, the North Korean government appears to be opting for soft power
diplomacy this time. The Pyongyang has just announced a major pharmaceutical breakthrough
that, if proven true, is sure to get the attention of the international
scientific and medical communities.
The official Korean Central News agency—the authorized
mouthpiece of the government in Pyongyang, announced on Friday, June 19, 2015,
that its medical scientists have successfully developed a drug that can prevent
and cure MERS, Ebola, SARS and AIDS diseases. However, little proof of this
supposed miracle cure for some of the world’s deadliest diseases was
forthcoming from the announcer.
It’s no surprise that the North Korean claim comes
as its arch rival, South Korea, is batting to contain an outbreak of the MERS
virus in the country, which has already
claimed about two dozen lives and sickened more than one hundred and sixty
people since last month.
If the announcement is true, it’d be one of the
greatest medical breakthroughs in human history—and will make North Korea a
toast of the world community. However, if it turns out to be a hoax, it’d be one
of the sickest joke in history—one that can only originate from an utterly perverse
and depraved mind, and not at all funny.
I’d like to offer an unsolicited advice to the North
Korean medical and scientific community. If indeed you have successfully found
a cure for these deadly diseases as it’s claimed by your government, I implore
you to immediately present your discovery to the international scientific
community for peer review and claim verification. This is a most credible way
to show proof of your remarkable accomplishment to the world.
It would be utterly unconscionable for you to
possess the cure for deadly pathogenic viruses that are currently claiming a
great many lives, and not immediately make the life-saving medicine readily
available to the sick and dying. Currently, many are dying in South Korea and
elsewhere of MERS viral infections. And in parts of West Africa the Ebola virus
disease is still claiming lives.
Healing the dying would be the surest way of telling
the world that North Korea is indeed a force for good. This is the most potent
public relations offensive that North Korea can unleash against its detractors.
If you truly have this miracle cure, then the world needs it urgently.
