Prepping for Warfare in Outer Space

Prepping for Warfare in Outer Space

By E. Stanley Ukeni

Now here is one of those news stories that make one think, ‘hmmm…is there something going on that is being hidden from us ‘the people’. Well, that’s the first thing that came to mind when I came across the news story about the creation of a United States’ Space Corps.

Yes, you read it right; there is a serious push in the US Congress to establish a new Special Forces Unit within the Armed Forces tasked to defend America, its interests, and perhaps the world, against potential alien invaders from outer space—or maybe against more mundane foreign enemies from here on earth.

No, this is no joke…and it’s definitely not a science fiction plotline. There is currently a proposal being deliberated in the select US House Armed Services Congressional committee that is recommending a creation of a new military branch within the US Armed Forces that would train its recruits to fight wars in outer space.

And before you dismiss this notion outright, the congressional legislation authorizing the creation of the new Space Force is laid out in the US National Defense Authorization Act, which is currently heading to the full House of Representatives for a vote—before advancing to the US Senate.

It was reported that, although neither the US Air Force’s Secretary nor its Chief of Staff are particularly enthused about the idea of carving out a separate space command from the current US Air Force command structure, the US House Armed Services Committee voted 60 to 1 in favor of the bill that would establish the first new branch of the armed forces since the establishment of the US Air Force as an independent military branch of the Army, in 1947.

The new Space Corps, as it is being envisaged, would be probably be an elite Special Forces Unit, under the US Air Force Command—similar to how the US Marine Corps and Navy Seals operates in the US Navy. However, the command structure of the Space Corps will differ from that of the current Special Forces command structure.

The new US Space Corps command structure would have a separate Chief of Staff from that of the US Air Force—who would be appointed to a six-year team by the President of the United States. The authority of the Space Corps’ Chief of Staff would be in par with that of the US Air Force’s Chief of Staff, as both would report to the Secretary of the US Air Force.

As reported, the official duties of the new Elite Space Corps, as contained in the legislation currently making its way through US Congress, would be “…providing combat-ready space forces that enable the commanders of the combatant commands to fight and win wars.”

The second thought that came to mind when I came across this story is the rhetorical question, ‘when did Noah build the Ark?’ of course, the answer to this being, ‘before the storm’, implies the that the creation of this unique armed forces command is an indicator that the United States’ congressional leadership is contemplating the real plausibility of a military threat from outer space—one that is not being shared with the public, but is being stealthily prepared to defend against.

I’m using the above narrative to support a fringe theory of a gathering threat from alien civilization that has been concealed from the masses. Yeah, I’m sure there are those who’d consider this notion to be a cheap attempt at peddling conspiracy theories. Ok, I admit, this idea is a bit out there, but you have to admit, it gives one purse for thought.

Then again, it may be that US Congress is just aiming to maintain America’s strategic superiority in warcraft, against emerging threats from old and emerging superpower nation-states, who may challenge America’s current preeminence in the world order.

I am equally considering the possibility that, with the real prospect of nations establishing manned outposts on the moon and the colonization of other planets, there would be a practical need for an armed forces command that will serve to secure American lives and assets on alien planets and or moons.

I’m pretty sure that the deployment of space armed soldiers would hearten future deep spacefarers and colonists regarding their personal safety and security by their enforcement of law and order—far from planet earth.

There is also the prospect that space is shaping up to be the next theater of future world war amongst major world powers. This idea of a space based military initiative has been gaining traction in US Congress for some time now, with many in congress swayed by the narrative that the US military is behind the curve against the Russians and the Chinese when it comes to space war fighting capabilities.

This notion is supported by this remark by Congressman Mike Rogers of Alabama, who serves as the Chairman of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee—and a major sponsor of this initiative in the US Congress, “The Chinese literally have a space force today. Yet the Air Force would continue to force space to compete with F-35s. And we know who’s going to win that competition”.
