What would have been…if Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 US Presidential Election?

By E. Stanley Ukeni
I wrote the article below and posted it on my blog site on the 7th of November, 2016 because I was hundred percent sure that Hillary Clinton would emerge as the winner of the 2016 US presidential election. However, it would appear that I was off the mark. I have to admit, that came as a shock to me—of which I’m just now recovering from.

I subsequently took down the post from my blog for fear of possible backlash from Trump supporters who may be incensed by the article. But, that fear of possible backlash is gone now. I feel that it is important for my readers to have a sense of what my thoughts are on a Hillary Clinton presidency…which may still be…(perhaps in an alternative universe).

The United States’ 2016 presidential elections have come and gone, and President-elect Donald Trump emerged winner of the most Electoral College votes. All of America must now rally behind him, move the country forward.

Having said this, I’m sure many of us can’t help but wonder what could have been. What would a Hillary Clinton Presidency have looked like? Well, this article is intended to give my readers a glimpse at what I think a Hillary Clinton Presidency would have looked like if she had emerged victorious.

I hope you enjoy reading it, as I did writing it.

The Winner of the United States of America’s 2016 Presidential election is…Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton

With just one day to go, the 2016 US election is shaping up to be a cliffhanger.  Though national polls suggest a Clinton lead, it is still within a margin of a surprise Trump comeback win—especially with the fiasco of the email scandal.

Having said that, I am almost hundred percent certain that Hilary Clinton will emerge victorious—becoming the first United States of America’s first female Commander-in-Chief in History…and the country’s 45th President. It feels so good just writing this.

Although she is only going narrowly beat her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, with two traditional Republican or swings States voting massively for Hilary Clinton. I suspect she would win decisively in Ohio.

Her victory mark a triumph of hope over fear, of progressive thinking over protectionist and narrow-minded worldview…restoring the collective confidence of the global populace in the US electorate. After her victory, Americans would then begin an daunting task of healing a fractured Nation.

The former First Lady was a strong contender in the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries—losing just narrowly to President Barack Obama. Senator Clinton subsequently emerged as US Secretary of State under Obama—a position she served admirably. After stepping down as the US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton announced her second presidential run in April 2015.

So, since it is now all but decided that Hilary Clinton will win the 2016 US Presidential election—at least according by me, the question the world should be asking now is; what sort of President would she be?

This question is not one that could be easily answered, since Hilary Clinton’s political track record makes it quite difficult to typecast her as either a dove or a hawk—my thinking is that she is more of a hybrid political leader than either of the two labels.

She would just as easily swing the hammer of the US’ vast military might as she would employ shrewd diplomacy against America’s foe where and whenever the United States’ interests are threatened. Her unique ability to morph herself into either a dove or a hawk would make her a formidable US President—one who America’s enemies would come to dread and loathe.

In the area of foreign policy, her shrewdness is a quality that will enable her to craft an effective international policy regime that would ensure that the United States of America remains a formidable global power in the foreseeable future. As Commander-in-Chief, she will effectively and successfully face-down America’s foe, both foreign and domestic, who dares to test America’s resolve.

In contrast to Trump’s neo-isolationist foreign and economic policy leanings, Hilary Clinton’s worldview of the United States being an ‘exceptional country’ would compel her to sustain America’s traditional leadership role in the world. She would ensure that the United States’ proactively engages the rest of the world by promoting American values and interests around the globe.

The Hilary Clinton presidency, though rocky in the beginning—and on occasions, would be and exceptional and transformative tenure. She will serve with distinction, leaving America a much stronger Union.
